Attempting to Make the SECRET Burger King Breakfast

I’d heard rumours about a mysterious Burger King breakfast burger called the Breakfast King. The problem was actually getting hold of one.

On paper it sounded simple enough. Drive to Burger King, order a Breakfast King, eat it and see what all the fuss was about. Instead, it turned into one of the most confusing fast-food missions I’ve ever been on.

The Hunt Begins

Hugo and I headed off to our local Burger King after discovering that the Breakfast King could apparently be ordered online. Confidence was high.

That confidence lasted until we got to the drive-thru.

We were told the Breakfast King wasn’t available, despite all signs pointing towards it being an actual menu item. Slightly baffled, we left empty-handed and started trying to work out exactly what this thing was supposed to be.

Thankfully, Burger King kindly offered us some burgers, which at least gave us something to investigate while plotting our next move.

A Breakfast Burger Wrapped In Mystery

The more I looked into the Breakfast King, the stranger it became. It seemed to exist, but also not exist. Some locations apparently sold it, others didn’t, and nobody seemed entirely sure where you could reliably get one.

Rather than giving up, I decided to do what I often end up doing in these situations: make my own version at home.

This wasn’t my first attempt at recreating a famous fast-food item. I’ve previously tried recreating KFC using ingredients sourced from some rather unusual places in my homemade KFC experiment, so I was ready for another challenge.

The Plot Thickens

Just when I thought the mystery couldn’t get any stranger, Hugo managed to place an online order for the Breakfast King from the very same Burger King that had told us it wasn’t available.

Success! Well… not quite.

When the order arrived, there was still no Breakfast King. Instead, we ended up with an assortment of burgers that definitely weren’t what we’d ordered. At that point it felt like the Breakfast King was becoming some sort of fast-food urban legend.

Building My Own Breakfast King

With no genuine Breakfast King available for comparison, I pieced together the information I could find and set about creating my own version.

This is one of my favourite parts of food experiments like this. You start with a rough idea, make a few educated guesses and see where you end up. Sometimes it’s a complete disaster. Sometimes it’s surprisingly good.

Thankfully, this one fell much closer to the surprisingly good category.

Whether my homemade version was close to the real thing remains a mystery, but after everything we’d gone through just trying to obtain one, it felt like a satisfying ending to a very strange journey.

Would You Have Better Luck?

The biggest question left unanswered is whether anyone can consistently buy a Breakfast King in the UK.

If you’ve managed to get hold of one, I’d genuinely love to know where. At this point I’m starting to suspect it’s the fast-food equivalent of Bigfoot.

Good times, Barry
